Mike Landis, unlike his esteemed colleagues, has not received a musical degree yet, seeing how he has not graduated yet from his college, William and Mary. However, Mike has had much experience with percussion during his four years at Atlee High School and his first year at William and Mary.
In high school he was very active in the concert band, wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, and marching band under the direction of a great leader and percussionist, Matthew McCutchen. In his senior year of high school, Mike gained invaluable leadership experience as the captain of the drumline, and in that year the drumline and band both came in first at all but one of their competitions and received a superior at VBODA.
While at college, Michael has continued his percussive studies with Mike Boyd, the former drummer of Fighting Gravity, and John Lindberg, the principle timpanist of the Virginia State Symphony. He has continued participating in music with both the wind symphony (and occasionally the orchestra) and percussion ensemble, as well as serving as the captain of the pep band’s drumline and playing in the pit for the school’s musical.
So besides all of that formal stuff, I would just like to say that I am looking forward to working with the percussionists at Bruton and serving the band in general as best as possible.
